    Families, teachers, and tutors will find this site helpful for encouraging problem solving with middle school students. Find many math challenges that involve using concepts and objects found in everyday life--how fast your heart beats, what shape holds the most popcorn, how much of me shows in a mirror, for example. Each challenge has an initial problem with hints, a complete explanation of the answer, and related problems around the same challenge. Resources for further investigations are suggested.

Choose from a variety of problem types (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, greater/less than, and mixed) and also set various options: such as font size, division answers, including name/date/score fields reshuffling problems etc.

    This is a great site for helping students with the basic operations of multiplication; division; addition and subtraction. This site allows choice of operation difficulty; range of numbers and the option to choose a timer on a set of questions.

    This site provides information about basic math and algebra and specifically addresses the needs of the community college adult learner. A student who is frustrated by college math can be helped by identifying his individual learning style and recognizing the instructor's teaching style. This site provides links for students and teachers to information about learning styles, study skills tips, and ways to reduce math anxiety.

  17. Math Refresher Module
    This module is an interactive tutorial which gives a comprehensive view of basic mathematics. The module covers fractions, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, series, functions, derivatives, and integrals. The Math refresher module is intended for use by DAU course participants.
  18. MegaMath!
    Los Alamos National Laboratory "The MegaMath project is intended to bring unusual and important mathematical ideas to elementary school classrooms so that young people and their teachers can think about them together." Some very good ideas for developmental math students or "math appreciation" courses.
  19. Mrs. Glosser’s Math Goodies
    Math Goodies is a free educational web site featuring interactive math lessons, homework help, worksheets, puzzles, message boards, and more. There are over 400 pages of free math activities and resources for teachers, students, parents, and homeschoolers. The Table of Contents includes Topics in Pre-Algebra, Probability; Integers, Understanding Percent, Number theory, Circumference and Areas of Circles, Perimeter and area of Polygons Older students and adults in need of remediation will benefit from this site

    This lesson reviews various mathematical skills, connects to the "real world" (uses facts about Toronto’s Skydome) and improves reading for information skills.
  25. Teachers Helping Teachers
    These are lesson plans submitted by teachers oriented to the younger student. Major problem would be that the lesson plans are not on separate pages, need to scroll down page through a variety of different math lessons.
  26. Teaching Developmental Mathematics (Mathematical Association of America)
    People teaching developmental (remedial) mathematics courses at various institutions are often isolated and have little information on what's new in the field. To ameliorate this situation, the Subcommittee on Developmental Mathematics (jointly of the Committee on the Teaching of Undergraduate Mathematics and the Committee on Professional Development) has started a web page, a mailing list, and other activities.
  27. The National Center for Developmental Education
    This site offers a lot of information regarding developmental education for the teacher and student alike.  The Center is based at Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C., with its Kellog Institute for the Training and Certification of Developmental Educators.  The institutes next certification is summer, 2003.
  28. Tools for understanding
    The lessons, activities, and other materials at this site are designed to enable mathematics educators (especially teachers of PreAlgebra and remedial math classes) to integrate technology into their everyday teaching. Strands within the site deal with tools such as spreadsheets, calculators, and presentation software. While much of this site focuses on mathematics, there are a number of lessons and activities that are intended to blend mathematics with writing and make use of mathematical reasoning in other content areas such as social studies.
